  7. 17:00 - NEWS FLASH: Former Tour de France champion Bjarne Riis of Denmark admitted on Friday to having used performance-enhancing drugs during his career as a cyclist. "I have taken doping, I have taken EPO," the 1996 Tour winner told a news conference. "I purchased it myself and I took it myself. It was a part of every day life as a rider."   32. 15:56 - BRILLIANT TIME FOR PEREZ CUAPIO ! The Mexican demolishes Visconti's previously leading time in 29'38", a full 1'34" better than the Italian.

  35. 15:49 - Yaroslav Popovych (Discovery Channel) did not start today's time trial. Ukraine's Popo crashed at the beginning of the week. He decided to quit this race in order to begin his Tour de France prep. He was 19th place in the GC at 9'26" behind Di Luca.

  36. 8KM** - FIRST CHECKPOINT (after 100 riders): 1. Perez Cuapio (Panaria), 2. Ignatiev (Tinkoff) at 15", 3. Facci (Quick Step) at 23", 4. Kunitski (Astana) at 28", 5. Baliani (Panaria) at 30".

  37. 13KM* - Paolo Bettini is off! The world champion Quick Step rider is still suffering from a thorax injury. He crashed hard in stage four and will soon undergo a new medical examination.

  38. 8KM** - FIRST CHECKPOINT: Julio Perez Cuapio has claimed the fastest mark at the five kilometre check. The Mexican from Panaria crossed in 8'38", so 15" faster than Ignatiev.

  39. 15:30 - Andrei Kunitski vient nearly reached Visconti's time, with the Astana rider landing in second place just eight seconds behind the Italian in this mountain time trial.

  40. 15:08 - Start times of interest - David Zabriskie 2:45 BST, Gilberto Simoni 3:24, Damiano Cunego 3:28, Andy Schleck 3:32, Danilo Di Luca 3:38.

  41. 15:03 - France's Christophe Kern (Crédit Agricole) crossed the line 29 seconds behind Visconti and is now in second-place in front of Russian Tinkoff duo Ivan Rovny and Mikhail Ignatiev.

  42. 15:01 - RACE SITUATION: Giovanni Visconti has just put down the best time. The Italian Quick Step rider sets the pace at 31'12".

  43. 15:00 - Switzerland's world time trial champion Fabian Cancellara (CSC), did not start today's stage. He abandoned the race in Thursday's 12th stage in the mountains.
