Ronan O'Gara's Ireland career is hanging in the balance after the Munster fly-half was omitted from Declan Kidney's 32-man squad to face France in Dublin on Saturday
The Ireland head coach has made the right call to sacrifice the 35-year-old, although it could be perceived as a last-ditch attempt by Kidney to salvage his own hopes of securing a new deal.
O'Gara struggled in a 12-6 defeat by England, conceding a number of penalties, after replacing injured Leinster star Jonathan Sexton just before half-time.
He was dropped to the bench for the 12-8 loss to Scotland but filled in for Paddy Jackson in the second half with the Ulster youngster struggling to kick for goal.
However, the veteran out-half produced a bizarre chipped kick instead of a simple pass which epitomised what has been a dire campaign for the popular Irishman.
