
Jonathan Joseph seemed to be set to fill the giant hole in the England midfield left in Manu Tuilagi's absence.
But with limited opportunities over the past year it is surprising he has not been retained in the matchday squad to face Scotland in the Six Nations opener.
More than surprising, it is disappointing. It was an opportunity to see a different type of player grace the England midfield, an area that has been dominated in recent years by so-called 'bosh-merchants'.
