Tributes have come in from the world of motorsport and beyond for Maria De Villota, who died at the age of 33.
The Former Formula One test driver, one of the few women to come close to the top of the sport, was found dead in a hotel in the southern Spanish city of Seville on Friday.
De Villota, who lost her right eye and fractured her skull at a test in England in July 2012, had apparently died of 'natural' causes, a Spanish police spokeswoman said.
The following are a selection of the many touching tributes to De Villota.
Fernando Alonso, Spanish F1 driver: "I really don't know what to say. Pray for her and her family and the whole motor sport family. She was really loved by everyone."
Susie Wolff, Williams development driver: "I feel I owe it to her (to say something) because, out of the paddock and out of the motorsport bubble, she was an incredible character, she was a fighter. She had such a spirit for life and what she came through was a testament to her strength of character and her positive outlook."
De Villota's family on Facebook: "Dear friends. Maria has left us. She had to go to heaven like all the angels. We give thanks to God for the year and half more he allowed her to be with us."
De Villota's former F1 team, Marussia: "It is with great sadness that we learned a short time ago of the news that Maria de Villota has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers are with Maria's family and friends at this very difficult time."
Monisha Kaltenborn, Sauber team principal: "We all have our issues, but nothing compares to what she went through. There is no moment I don't remember of her when she didn't have a smile on her face. No matter what happened she always had this smile."
Martin Whitmarsh, McLaren team principal: "She was an inspiration, not just to women in this sport but also to all those who suffered life-threatening injuries. Her story, determination and subsequent inspiration flowed from F1 through sport as a whole."
Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull: "We were extremely saddened to learn of the loss of Maria de Villota. On behalf of everyone in the team, we send our sincere condolences to Maria’s family at this difficult time"
