Welcome to Overreaction Theatre: Special England Edition, where we look at the funny, predictable and downright silly things people say on Twitter during big matches.
And what better occasion to gauge some overreaction than England qualifying for the World Cup finals? Bring on the hype and the expectation.
Still, prior to kick-off England fans were fretting about what would happen if their team failed to make the World Cup in Brazil.
Has anybody thought of what will happen if England don't qualify... Personally, I'd be distraught. Maybe Cry

Haven't cared this much about an England game for a while, if we don't qualify I'm getting a one way ticket to Buenos Aires

However, one fan had a silver lining ready to cite if England managed to mess up their big moment.

When the team sheets came in, there was surprise at the inclusion of Michael Carrick, who would go on to have a good game at Wembley.
Carrick & smalling? Why?
— Jordan lufc Carter (@JordanCarter10) October 15, 2013
Carrick? Is Wilshere dead or something?
— Ashley Wright (@AshleyWright_92) October 15, 2013
Carrick starting over wilshere tonight could potentially be a disaster. #sidewardpasses

And as for Carrick, well I thought Hodgson said we gonna go out and attack Poland? Lampard is a goal scoring midfielder. Carrick is not.

Despite England playing with real attacking verve against Poland, Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck wasn't earning much love on Twitter as the night progressed, earning unflattering comparisons with an England striker past.
Emile Heskey has been asked by Disney to be in the new Star Wars film. Apparently the story will involve him telling Welbeck he's his dad.
— Michael Lloyd (@wythyblue16) October 15, 2013
Welbeck is the new Heskey. Works his socks off but couldn't finish a packet of crisps. #England
— Ross Parkes (@rossp10) October 15, 2013
You're just a slim Emile Heskey....slim Emile Heskey....You're just a slim Emile Heskey #Welbeck
— Bankz (@BanksyBanter) October 15, 2013
Still, England came through thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard, and although we are supposed to be living in a new era of realism regarding the national team's chances, there were still some who allowed themselves to dream of Rio glory next summer...
Job fine, impeccable qualifying record, unbeaten, huge goals advantage, never in doubt, we're going to win the World Cup
— Tom Holvey (@tpholvey) October 15, 2013
we're gonna win the World Cup I just know it. — DREAM MCLEAN (@DreamMclean) October 15, 2013

— DAVID JONES (@DavidJonesSky) October 15, 2013
Some properly exciting young English players around now. Roy has to be brave enough to take them. We're going to win the World Cup. — Simon Caney (@simoncaney) October 15, 2013
