Scotland coach George Burley is convinced that the Tartan Army can qualify for the World Cup in South Africa in 2010.
Scotland have been drawn to face Holland, Norway, Macedonia and Iceland in Group Nine, with the games set to get underway in the autumn.
Burley was encouraged by the displays of some of the unfancied sides at Euro 2008, with both Turkey and Russia reaching the semi-finals.
He also recalls how close Scotland were to qualifying for the tournament in Austria and Switzerland, with heavyweights Italy and France only just scraping through.
"Scotland haven't been to a major tournament for ten years and we've got big games coming up in September," Burley told Sky Sports News.
Asked how Scotland would compare with a side like Turkey, he added: "It's how you perform and Turkey performed to their full capabilities. They were a little bit unfortunate against Germany.
"But we've got to concentrate on ourselves. We were a little bit unfortunate in our last qualifying games for the Euros.
"The team did the country proud against Italy and France but we know with the World Cup games coming up, we'll do our best to get to South Africa in 2010 because that's our ambition."
