LONDON (AFP) - Jonny Wilkinson is set to play his first match since October's World Cup final when Newcastle face Wasps in the Anglo-Welsh Cup on Saturday.
An ankle injury has kept the England fly-half out of action since he featured in England's 15-6 World Cup final defeat against South Africa.
But the 28-year-old Wilkinson, England's record points scorer and the man whose drop-goal secured victory over Australia in the 2003 World Cup final, has been cleared to play by Newcastle's medical staff for a match where the winners will go through to the semi-finals.
Newcastle are also set to have England utility back Toby Flood available following an ankle problem.
"We definitely have Jonny and Toby back fit for Saturday and both will start the game," said Newcastle rugby director John Fletcher.
"Both Toby and Jonny are fine. Jonny was very close for last weekend's Premiership game at Wasps after his ankle injury.
"Toby has fully recovered from his own ankle problem and the other injury to a delicate area which we won't mention!"
New Zealand prop Carl Hayman arrived in Newcastle this week to begin his three-year contract and Fletcher said it was still possible the All Black front-row could makes his Newcastle debut against Wasps.
"He has had a long journey this week and a big move, so we'll have to sit down with him and see if this weekend is right to get him involved."
