Walsall boss Jimmy Mullen has revealed he is close to bringing in two new players to bolster the club ahead of the new season.

Mullen, who was appointed Saddlers chief back in May, is desperate to bolster his threadbare squad in a bid to boost the club's chances of challenging for promotion to the Championship.

And while chasing several targets, he is hopeful of landing two in the next few days.

Mullen said: "At this particular moment in time, we're very close to a couple (of players). We have got four maybe five irons in the fire as I say, of which two we're close to.

"Without giving too much away, I know the positions that we need to strengthen and hopefully we'll achieve all the benefits of all our hard work in the next few days.

"Hopefully, with a little bit more persuasion and a little bit more pushing and nudging, then maybe in a few years we will have the fruits of our hard work."
