Bierhoff: Low won't quit Germany

Tue 24 Jun, 02:00 PM

Germany team manager Oliver Bierhoff is convinced Joachim Low will remain as coach, even if they lose to Turkey in their Euro 2008 semi-final.Low admitted he considered quitting after the defeat to Croatia in the group stage, but his team bounced back to knock Portugal out in the last eight.

And Bierhoff insists the result of Wednesday's clash will not have a bearing on Low's future.

The former striker told the Bild newspaper: "The semi-finals are a big achievement. He will continue regardless of how the Turkey game goes."

Bierhoff also hinted the championship could be the last time 38-year-old goalkeeper Jens Lehmann plays for Germany.

He said: "His contract in Stuttgart runs initially only for one year. But after the Euros we are planning already for the World Cup in 2010."
