SFA planning talks with Argentina

Fri 20 Jun, 07:30 PM

Scotland could face Argentina in a friendly later this year - providing realistic terms to bring the South Americans to Hampden can be agreed.Scottish Football Association officials had hoped to line up a match against the same opponents earlier in the year but negotiations broke down with agents working on behalf of the Argentinians.

The financial demands of the two-time World Cup winners could again thwart the SFA's bid to stage the game, however they are hopeful of clinching a deal.

An SFA spokesman said: "We expect to have preliminary discussions with agents representing Argentina over the course of the weekend and will have more to say next week following the conclusion of those discussions."

The SFA will be determined to make sure match tickets are affordable, and will look to ensure the costs of bringing Argentina to Scotland can be met without hitting fans hard in the pocket.

They are aware that high ticket prices for a friendly international could lead to a backlash from the Tartan Army, however the SFA also know the game would also hold plenty of appeal.

It is understood fans' groups will be consulted over the fixture before the SFA commit to taking on Alfio Basile's side.
