Premier League - Wenger: Adebayor will train

Eurosport - Sat, 19 Jul 23:31:00 2008

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger expects striker Emmanuel Adebayor to turn up for Arsenal pre-season training on Monday morning.

FOOTBALL: Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger - 0

Togo striker Adebayor, who finished top scorer for the Gunners last season with 30 goals, has made it clear through comments in the media that he wants an improved deal.

But Wenger clearly has no intention of letting Arsenal be held to ransom over excessive wage demands from any of his players.

After watching Arsenal's 2-1 pre-season friendly win over Barnet on Saturday, Wenger told Sky Sports News: "Adebayor is under contract and we expect him to turn up on Monday and practice with us."

Arsenal head off for their pre-season training camp in Austria at the end of this month and will return for the Emirates Cup - hosting Juventus and Real Madrid, as well Hamburg under former Tottenham manager Martin Jol.

The Gunners will complete their preparations for the new season with an appearance at the Amsterdam Tournament ahead of the Champions League qualifier on August 12/13.

  1. I don't know why majority of Arsenal fans all over the globe are against Ade's increase wage demand. We should for once look with fair sense of judgement into the amount Ade is earning per week at in Arsenal. IT IS VERY POOR. Even Newcastle pay Martins better than Arsenal pay Ade, yet we call the latter one of the big four. Why this tag? If Ade were to be playing for either Man U, Chelsea or Liverpool, believe me, he would earn 2times what he is currently earning in Arsenal. Let's not crucify him for asking for wage increase. We should also look at the wage-cap at Arsenal and say NO. We should not be sided in this situation. If we were to be in Ade's (and other players who left Arsenal now and before) we would do the same and even worse. Why then are we calling Ade many names because we want to hang him. Pleae let us think like reasonable humans and ask Wenger (or whoever is concerned) to increase his wage even though it is not up to what he (Ade) is demanding. Ade is not that stubborn and greedy as we have labelled him all this while, he will accept it and put his mind back at the club. But to say NO to increasing his wage is very unfair to him as a footballer and as a person.

  2. But let's face it. Ade's salary is very poor. There should be increment. Or is it because he is an African player. If he were to be an English player, guess what. This matter should've been over by now. There is great wisdom in increasing his weekly wage. Even Martins at Newcastle (who cannot score 20 goals a season) is earning more than Adebayor. It's very bad. There should be improvement.

  3. If adebayo, were to be an English or French man,iam sure his problems would be looked into.Perhaps,he deserve a wage increase that would make him more comfortable to be able to BANG in more GOALSSSS.

  4. there's always a popular saying here in nigeria that arsenal doesnt like to spend money on players! non-theless adebayor is a very good srtiker who DESERVES some attenion to his salary review. he made a lot of impact during last season scoring as many as 30 goals,... even if he does not deserve 120pounds a week but atleast something close to that, lets be realistic, lets not underate our esteemed players. GUNNERS 4 EVER!!!

  5. well, it is good. this notorious guy will start training tomorrow. but wenger should tell him boaldly that he doesn't deserve the wage that he demands. how many chances you spoil last year that can be goal had toress got them. according to the you got, you must score 47 goals, not 30. this shows you are not a good finisher, men. had the chances given to you, has been given to walcot and bendtner, they will be better than you. adebayor, at this your performance, don't compare your self with henry. henry was loyal to arsenal, brought many trophies, above all he has a good reputation.he was not facinated by money. finally adebayor compensate this year for thing you did this summer. don't be a headache like last year by spoiling chances.bye ade.

  6. it will be very strange to even hear ade training with us when all that has happened over a month and a bit can a player really train after what has gone on. and with arsene standing there. but i am glad arsene has stuck to his guns because the ade is definately not worth 120k+ it took henry years to get too that figure and that was after giving The Arsenal years of loyal service and a lot of goals and trophies. ade can only dream of that figure at the moment.one season and 30 goals does not get you nothing in the EPL.

  9. Am i the only one who is getting fed up of players using AFC as a spring board to the big money teams? we should tell these players to prove their loyelty, they all kiss the shirt when they score but as soon as some tycoon gets his cheque book out they start dissing the boss. Big up to Cesc for again telling the big boys that he will honor his contract. Arsenal all the way this season!!!!!
