Fiji Rugby Union chief executive Timoci Tavanavanua has revealed France-based winner Rupeni Caucaunibuca is unlikely to be added to the World Cup squad.

Caucaunibuca, who is currently serving a three-month ban for cannabis use, was left out of Fiji's preliminary World Cup while officials try to ascertain how much of the World Cup he would be able to take part in.

The 27-year-old's suspension will end just before Fiji's second World Cup match, against Canada, but Tavanavanua said he was still unlikely to be chosen.

"The FRU is not at this stage considering Rupeni Caucaunibuca for the World Cup as he is currently serving a suspension for testing positive for the use of cannabis," he said. "Rupeni's suspension is from all levels of rugby and it runs right into the World Cup."

Caucau has a strained relationship with the FRU and was banned from representing his country for a year back in 2005, after failing to show up at the World Cup qualifiers.

Fiji have been drawn in Pool B for the World Cup along with Australia, Wales, Canada and Japan.
