Summer Tours - England Saxons skipper Ian Hatley expressed satisfaction with his side's 51-3 victory over a physcial USA side.

The Saxons scored nine tries at Sale's Edgeley Park against the same Eagles side that will meet England in the group stages of the World Cup later this year.

Hatley was also gracious enough to admit that the scoreline suggested a far more comfortable victory than it actually was.

Tigers number eight Jordan Crane grabbed a hat-trick of tries while London Irish full-back Deon Armitage crossed for two.

Winger Topsi Ojo, flanker Phil Dowson, replacement scrum-half Lee Dickson, prop Jack Forster and lock Jim Evans also touched down, while Valense Malifa was on target with a penalty for the Eagles.

"I thought the team played exceptionally well. We were a little loose to start but we tightened things up and Im really happy we got the result we did, especially not to concede a try," said Hatley.

"To be honest I thought the scoreline flattered us, it didn't feel like a 50-point game. They defended very well tight in, but when we got part five or six phases we were able to find holes.

"I was very happy with our defence but there are still plenty of things to work on. We need to work on getting the balance right, we tried to play a bit too much too early, and our ball control was not great we coughed it up a few times. But overall it was a great start."

The Saxons are next in action on May 28 when they face Scotland A at Twickenham.
