Juande Ramos could look at changing the Tottenham captaincy next season depending on Ledley King's progress returning from his knee injury.King was skipper at Wembley for the Carling Cup victory in February, one of 10 games he will play this campaign, and lifted the trophy with Robbie Keane, who has taken the armband when the first-choice captain has been unavailable.
Spurs head coach Ramos has appeared to have an unconventional view of who leads the side out - he dropped Paul Robinson this season then made him skipper on his first game back.
King has been recovering from surgery last summer and last week admitted he does not know when he will be able to play two games in a week again, which may be a factor if Ramos decides to change his skipper.
"We'll have to see what state he is in next season," said the Spaniard. "We're going to have to wait for the diagnosis of the doctors.
"We'll have to wait and see if he is here next season. We don't know what the squad is going to be like, and we'll make that decision then."
He added: "I know perfectly well what the situation is with Ledley's injury but that kind of information, only the doctors can give you."
Ramos plans to look at all aspects of the club this summer, with some of the squad expected to leave as the new boss plans for his first full campaign.
Spurs are determined, though, to keep hold of Dimitar Berbatov, the Bulgaria striker who has been tipped to impress in the Champions League.
Ramos added: "Right now we have him with us at the moment and we intend to enjoy having him here to the maximum.
"We're delighted to have him here and as far as the future is concerned that is a matter for the club."
Meanwhile, Spurs players may have been talking about performing for their futures but most of Ramos' assessments have been completed.
He said: "After five or six months here I know the squad really well and what they are capable of.
"I'm not going to discover now anything new about a group of players I have been with for a long time and know perfectly well."
