Masters champion Selby, 24, had to fight back from 8-5 down, managing to win four straight frames and capitalising on an error from O'Sullivan when the Rocket had the chance to take the final frame.

It should have been the 32-year-old O'Sullivan's 20th ranking-tournament win of his career to come off the back of UK Championship and Premier League victories earlier this season.

The 2001 and 2004 World Champion and world number five lost the first two frames to the man from Leicester but, returning for the second session at four frames apiece, he pulled away to with two century breaks to dominate the start of the evening session.

However, Selby - coming off the back of his breakthrough Masters win in January - managed to fight back from 8-5 down and send the match to a decider.

And with the frame evenly poised, O'Sullivan potted the white to allow 11th-ranked Selby to clear the table and win the title.
