Hull KR second row forward Clint Newton has failed in a bid to play for Scotland in the World Cup.
The 25-year-old son of Australian golfer Jack Newton was born in America, raised in Australia and has an English mother but hoped to join his Rovers' team-mate Ben Fisher in the Scotland team, who have qualified for the 10-team tournament to be held in Australia at the end of the season.
"I've been ruled out of the Scotland side as it was my great-grandmother who was from Scotland and not my grandmother," he told the Hull Daily Mail.
"Australia aren't interested as I'm playing over here. England have made it known I won't be under consideration for their squad either.
"America haven't qualified for this tournament, but if they qualify for the next one and I'm in a position to play for them then I'd be happy to play for them too.
"It's disappointing as it would be great to play in a World Cup, but if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. I'll be happy to have a good, solid season with Rovers."
