Hock Inspires Wigan Comeback

Fri 16 May, 10:09 PM

Gareth Hock celebrated his 100th engage Super League appearance in sparkling fashion as Wigan overturned a 14-6 deficit to end their losing run in emphatic style with a 38-14 victory over Warrington.

Hock set up two tries and scored one himself to spark a remarkable transformation as the Warriors bounced back from their Cardiff humiliation by arch rivals St Helens.

There was also a welcome return to tryscoring form by Australian stand-off Trent Barrett, last year's leading scorer who opened his Super League account for the season with a brace.

Danny McGuire claimed another hat-trick and skipper Kevin Sinfield equalled Andy Farrell's record of scoring in 48 successive Super League rounds as Leeds surged seven points clear at the top of the table with a 58-12 win over Wakefield.

Sinfield converted all six of his side's first-half tries, from McGuire (2), home debutant Eric Anselme, Rob Burrow, Simon Worrall and Keith Senior.

They were no more than Leeds deserved, such was their stunning superiority against a bewildered Wakefield outfit who arrived at Headingley having won their previous six games in all competitions.

Further scores were added after the break by Carl Ablett, McGuire - who had also claimed a treble at Harlequins in the Challenge Cup the previous weekend - Matt Diskin and Senior in a 10-try romp.
