Pilkington, 34, is out of contract next month and will sign the deal when he returns from a holiday.

"I'm delighted Kevin has agreed terms," County manager Ian McParland told the club's official website.

"He had a tremendous season for us between the posts, picking up the supporters club player of the season award and the players' player of the season award.

"He is a fantastic professional and we are delighted he has agreed to sign a new deal with us.

"While Kevin is away we will get the contract drawn up, and then once he returns he will come in, have a look through it and make sure everything is in order - and then sign."

County finished the season in 21st position, six points and two places outside the relegation zone. Neighbours Mansfield Town and Welsh side Wrexham were relegated to the Blue Square Premier, the top non-league division.

Pilkington featured occasionally for Manchester United in the 1990s. He was behind number one Peter Schmeichel and Raimond van der Gouw in the pecking order for most of that time.
