Double Delight At Headingley

Thu 15 May, 03:09 PM

Headingley will host two Roses matches on the same day later this month.

Leeds Rhinos have arranged their Carnegie Challenge Cup quarter-final with Wigan for Saturday, May 31, which is the second day of Yorkshire's championship cricket match against Lancashire on the adjoining pitch.

Because of the clash, the Rhinos had faced the possibility of switching their Cup-tie after it was chosen by the BBC for live coverage but they have reached agreement with Yorkshire to share the stadium that day.

Leeds chief executive Gary Hetherington said: "We would like to thank Yorkshire for their co-operation in helping us to stage the game at the same time as their important fixture against Lancashire.

"There will be logistical challenges that we will need to overcome but the important issue is that there is a willingness from all parties to make both matches a success."

The Headingley tie will kick off at 1430 BST while the BBC will also show live coverage of the Bradford v Hull quarter-final the following day at 1515.
