News circulated of how Portugal have taken the day off after beating Czech Republic and qualifying for the knockout phase of Euro 2008, as there is a whole seven-day gap between that match and their quarter final.
But it seems that, while most people assumed this was as a reward for the players' efforts thus far, it was actually so that Big Phil Scolari could spend the day with the blower in one hand and cramming paper down the fax machine with the other.
How else can you explain the fact that the Sun reckon he has already planned four signings and the same number of ejections from Chelsea, and they have illustrated this with some dubious photoshopping.
Unsurprisingly, two of the names to be brought in are Barcelona duo Ronaldinho and Deco for £10 million and £20 million respectively. Then of course there is David Villa, who will damage Roman's chequebook to the tune of £32 million. Maybe Scolari will even grab Samuel Eto'o for £22 million as well while he's there, just to reduce that carbon footprint.
That means several players will be sent flying out of the revolving door in slapstick cartoon fashion, led by Florent Malouda, who the Blues hope to get their money back on by flogging him to Barca for £13 million.
Didier Drogba is of course going to Milan sooner rather than later for £18 million, we all know that, but Claude Makelele will do one to Marseille on a Bosman, which could be disastrous news for fans of M&S adverts.
Claudio Pizarro will rush back to where he is appreciated by returning to the Bundesliga with Stuttgart for £5 million.
Over to that other blue club with a new boss and bags of cash, Manchester City. Zenit St Petersburg have delivered the ultimatum over their striker Andrei Arshavin. City have been given until June 20 to sign him, or forget about it.
They have also rekindled their interest in Espanyol defender Pablo Zabaleta, meaning Mark Hughes could kick off his first match for the club with two new players that he doesn't want.
Some good news for Sparky comes in the form of Bernardo Corradi finally severing his ties with the club by joining either Siena or Bologna.
Tottenham will turn their attentions to PSV in their hunt for a new goalkeeper, as they aim to nab Heurelho Gomes from the team that knocked them out of the UEFA Cup on penalties last season.
Sunderland have been browsing through the White Hart Lane garage sale and decided on Darren Bent as a worthy and wise purchase.
Fabrice Muamba has come to a three-way crossroads on his quest back to the top flight, and must now decide whether to opt for the road marked Bolton, Wigan or Stoke.
Meanwhile, Paul Scharner is threatening to leave Wigan on a Bosman for some reason and John Lennon look-a-like Andranik Teymourian has joined Fulham from Bolton.

The peruvian Pizarro is a fantastic forward and I am sure that any team must give him an opportunity.

Scooter38, not all Man U fans are arrogant, lets not start making generalizations.....
I'm an AS Roma fan, but frankly I'm sick of all this @#$% about Chelsea never being in the same league as Liverpool Arsenal or Man U. Last I checked, since they've been a hot topic, they've done consistently better than Liverpool and Arsenal, won two premier leagues among the FA Cups etc they wons.
Additionally, they aren't the only big spenders in the Premier league, they only spent BIG on Sheva...with that said they spent about the same that Man U did for Ferdinand ..a defender.
In honesty it'd be cool if Rome had that money, but they don't, I'm over it. Can you guys get over it?
Btw, sorry if i spelt anything wrong. Laters
Man utd fans need to learn not to be so arrogant!!!!!
sunderland has very realistic transfer targets! aren't they getting eto'o too?
abramovic made a lot of mistakes last season like dismissing jose mourinho at the beginning of the season and dismissing grant at the end of the season and now,he wants to make another mistake that will haunt the team through out the next season.
melvin
The only thing that i have to say about cristiano ronaldo is that he needs to stop looking like a punk and then start crying for every little thing that goes against him. Sure he has skill but if his personality was as good as his skill he would be the best person to look up to. I have no problem with Messi or Kaka because they are both responsible guys that live humble lives. But Messi is 2 years younger and is 50 times more mature than that arrogant piece of........
Can't Big Phil create another Ronaldo and stop buying all these overrated players?(exclude Villa) He might as well bring Pepe to Chelsea and we'll have a strong Portugal defense. But let Terry play too, ok Big Phil?

Craig R, and his pretentious comments about people's spelling should @#$% off to where people care even less for his comments. People make typos, never done that yourself? Or are you the kind of guy that puts every comment he makes into word to spell check it? It doesn't matter who they support which makes them uneducated, just look at Aliabbas' comments. It made my eyes bleed, and guess what. He's an Arsenal supporter, does that mean I can start saying, "Oh he's just an idiot because he's an Arsenal supporter."?
Chelsea will win the same as they won last year... Sweet @#$% All
