Manchester United defender Patrice Evra is closing in on a new deal with the Premier League champions.

The France international left-back has just a year left on his current deal, signed after he made his £5.5 million move from Monaco in January 2006.

The 26-year-old has revealed that a dialogue has opened with the club, but he is not expecting anything to happen until after the Champions League final against Chelsea on May 21.

He said: "My agent is speaking to the club. There has been one meeting and nothing since.

"I have one year left. The ball is in United's court.

"My job was to concentrate on winning the title and I have done it.

"Now my job is to concentrate on winning the Champions League. Let's see what happens after that.

"It was very important for me to win the league, not because of my new contract but to prove that last season was not an accident."
