McCarthy hopes for derby success

Mon 14 Apr, 03:15 PM

Mick McCarthy believes his side can take all three points in Tuesday's Black Country derby against promotion rivals West Brom. With Wolves just outside the play-off zone but with games in hand on those above them the manager is pleased the team are pitting their wits against a fellow side who have it all to play for.

McCarthy told the club's official website: "We're masters of our own destiny. I've said before that I'd rather be playing teams around us in the table rather than a relegated team who can come here with the pressure off and play free-flowing football."

The Irishman has also instructed his players to play the game rather than the occasion and concentrate on taking a valuable three points.

He said: "I've been at pains over the last eight to 10 weeks to say let's just try to win each game and it's important we play the game and not the occasion against West Brom.

"We have plenty in our locker for them to worry about. I understand they have scored plenty of goals but they have conceded a few more than us."
