The Pumas were leading just 6-3 at half-time but upped the tempo after the break to score four tries and secure a vital bonus point.

It was Argentina's second win from two World Cup matches and followed their stunning victory over hosts France last Friday.

"That was very tough. It was a very bruising evening," said Contepomi (pictured), who skippered the side in place of the injured Agustin Pichot.

"Georgia are physical and are a very good team. We had a turn around of just four days but they were fresh - it was their first game.

"I was not surprised they were so hard.

"Every team in this tournament is physical, and these guys were fresh into their first game with all their expectations. We knew how tough they were going to be.

"We had to work until the final seconds of the match to get the bonus point. It was very important, you have to get as many points as you can."

Wing Lucas Borges grabbed a brace of tries for the Pumas while Patricio Albacete and Federico Aramburu added late scores for a bonus point.

Georgia skipper Ilia Zedginidze praised his team's commitment and explained that his country needed regular games against top-tier nations in order for them to improve.

"I think the first half was very good for us," Zedginidze said.

"There were physical conditions, but our teams need more matches like this to help us get to a higher level.

"This Argentina team is a very tough team and a very hard team to play, and I wish them good luck for the next games."

Georgia's next match is against Ireland in Bordeaux on Saturday, while the Pumas have a well-earned break before facing Namibia on September 22.
