Real Madrid and Olympiacos qualified for the knock-out stage of the Champions League with comfortable home victories. Three first-half goals gave Real a 3-1 win over Lazio, while Olympiacos left it late before emerging as 3-0 victors over Werder Bremen.

Goals from Raul and Robinho ensured Real's victory over Lazio, for whom Goran Pandev grabbed a late consolation goal before Tomasso Rocchi's injury-time penalty was saved.

Olympiacos took the lead through Ieroklis Stoltidis in the first half, but their progress wasn't secured until goals from Darko Kovacevic and another from Stoltidis sealed the points late in the second half.

Lazio went into their game at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu knowing they had to win to have any hope of progressing to the next round, but they were undone by two goals inside the first twenty minutes.

The visitors spurned a great early chance to take the lead when Mourad Meghni could only direct Rocchi's pass over the bar, and Real served notice of their intentions when Raul's header thumped against the post from a corner soon after.

Three minutes later the home side were ahead, Robinho laying the ball off to Julio Baptista and the burly Brazilian stepped inside an opponent on the edge of the box before firing the ball across Marco Ballotta and into the far corner.

Lazio were still coming round from that blow when Real made the game safe.

Robinho curled the ball into the box from the left after a short corner had caught Lazio napping, and Raul rose well at the back post to plant a header beyond Ballotta.

The Real captain was denied a half-hour hat-trick when his delicate chip was ruled out for offside, but his side made sure of the win 10 minutes before half-time.

Robinho passed to Ruud van Nistelrooy inside the area and the Dutchman cut inside his man and laid the ball back to Robinho, who poked the ball home from close range.

With the game over as a contest, Real coach Bernd Schuster elected to introduce Guti and Arjen Robben at half-time, and the Dutchman almost extended Real's lead with a well-hit half-volley that Ballotta spectacularly palmed away.

Both sides struggled to muster any kind of attacking impetus for long periods of a rather pedestrian second half, but Lazio grabbed a consolation with 10 minutes remaining when Rocchi broke the offside trap and lifted the ball over Iker Casillas, Pandev sliding in to apply the finishing touch before colliding with the post.

Ballotta saved well from Guti before Lazio were awarded a penalty in injury time for a hand-ball by Pepe.

But any chances of an improbable comeback were snuffed out when Rocchi's weak penalty was easily saved by Casillas and substitute Roberto Baronio's follow-up met an identical fate.

Real qualify for the knockout stages as group winners, with Olympiacos joining them as runners-up.

Olympiacos 3-0 Werder Bremen

Bremen almost snatched the lead early on at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium when Olympiacos goalkeeper Antonios Nikopolidis could only parry Diego's long-range shot to Boubacar Sanogo, but with the goal at his mercy the Ivory Coast forward slid in to put it wide.

His mistake was punished just five minutes later.

Lomano Lua Lua found Stoltidis lurking in space on the edge of the Bremen box and he drove a rapier-like left-footed shot across Tim Wiese and into the bottom corner.

Bremen responded gamely, and the home side were indebted to Nikopolidis for a brave save at the feet of Sanogo after he had spilled Tim Borowski's shot from the edge of the area.

Markus Rosenborg was inches away from grabbing an equaliser but he could not quite get a touch on Naldo's downward header, and with the Germans forced to commit men forward they began to look exposed at the back.

Five minutes before half-time Lua Lua played the ball to Kovacevic on the left, but Wiese threw himself to his left to prevent the Serbian from increasing his side's lead.

Bremen twice went close at the beginning of the second half, and they were made to pay for their profligacy.

First, defender Naldo saw his header hacked off the line and then Nikopolidis somehow kept out Sanogo's thumping close-range header just after the hour-mark.

Twenty minutes remained when Kovacevic scored the goal that settled the home fans' nerves, rising brilliantly above Naldo to direct Stoltidis's left-wing cross past Wiese and into the bottom corner.

Within five minutes it was three-nil as Julio Cesar met a right-wing corner with a firm downward header and Stoltidis controlled neatly before ramming the ball home beneath Wiese for his second of the match.

Bremen, to their credit, continued to press, and Diego drew another fine save from Nikopolidis with a curling free-kick that seemed destined for the top corner.

Stoltidis's second goal sparked wild scenes in the stands as the fans celebrated qualifying for the knock-out stages for the first time since 1998-1999, and the final whistle drew warm embraces from the Olympiacos coaching staff and a lap of honour from the players.
