USA centre Paul Emerick has been handed a five-week ban for his dangerous tackle on Olly Barkley during the Eagles' World Cup clash with England last Saturday.

Emerick was summoned to appear before World Cup judicial officer Professor Lorne Crerar in Paris on Tuesday.

The Newport Gwent Dragons player received a yellow card for up-ending Barkley (see pictured) late in his side's 28-19 defeat to England, during which they shook the defending champions with their aggressive tackling and physicality.

He was cited for the tackle and Crerar ruled that the offence was intentional and that there was a deliberate tipping motion with an element of force in driving Barkley downwards.

The ban effectively ends Emerick's participation in the World Cup and certainly rules him out of the USA's remaining three pool games.

Emerick had been one of the USA's stand-out performers and the Eagles will miss him during their group games with Tonga (September 12), Samoa (September 26) and South Africa (September 30).
