All Blacks flyhalf Dan Carter has revealed he has no intentions of signing a contract abroad saying he wants to stay in New Zealand and help the national team through to the 2011 World Cup.
Carter's contract with Super 14 team the Crusaders expires at the end of next year and there were fears that he would join the ranks of those heading to the northern hemisphere.
But after the All Blacks failure to win the Webb Ellis Trophy as expected, Carter has pledged to stick around and be a player to build a new look team around in time for the next World Cup, which they will host.
"I wouldn't want to be anywhere else," he said. "It's a good chance to sit down and put my career exactly where I want it to go. I'm only 25 and hopefully have a few years left in the black jersey.
"The Black jersey means more to me than anything else. I'm keen to hang around and make the most of these next few years."
Doug Howlett (Munster), Luke McAlister (Sale Sharks), Aaron Mauger (Leicester Tigers), Byron Kelleher (Agen), Chris Jack (Saracens), Carl Hayman (Newcastle) and Anton Oliver (Toulon) have all opted to forgo the right to play for New Zealand in order to move to northern hemisphere clubs starting from this season.
Carter admitted that he did think about his future in the dressing room after the 20-18 defeat to France at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday but that the sight of his seven teammates who are leaving for French or English clubs was enough to cement his desire to stay in New Zealand.
"We'd worked so hard to get to where we were," he continued. "To be sitting in the changing room was a hollow and quiet place to be. There are a lot of young guys that have learned a lot from that experience but I really do feel for those guys that are moving on.
"For them to move elsewhere, it's hard to see them end their career on this sort of note. They'll be dearly missed."
