The mercurial rise of St Etienne striker Bafetimbi Gomis continues. Well, Newcastle are interested anyway.
Fresh from a cameo in France's dull goalless draw against Romania, the new boy has attracted the attention of Newcastle and Kevin 'attack, attack, attack' Keegan, who wants the alleged Didier Drogba clone despite already possessing Michael Owen, Mark Viduka, Obefemi Martins and, er, Alan Smith.
Recently tied down to a four-year contract, the Magpies will test Les Verts' resolve to hold onto their prize asset with a bid of £10 million.
Arsenal and Bolton are also keen admirers. The former may act if they lose Emmanuel Adebayor while the latter seek to fill the void left by Nicolas Anelka. We're guessing if he has a choice he won't be Reebok-bound.
Gomis is not the only Frenchman causing a stir among Premier League sides.
Former Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is fed up of life on the South of France and seeks a sharp retreat back to Lancashire. Wigan and Blackburn are primed to offer Marseille £5m for the Lord of the Manor of Frodsham.
Serial want-away Lassana Diarra finds it difficult to stay in the same place for more than six months. Hence Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie has warned that the midfielder is 'not for sale' amid rumours Tottenham fancy being the third London club to provide the French international with temporary accomodation.
Manchester City hope to complete the signing of Jo this week. They need to dot the I's and cross the T's fast because AC Milan are hovering around.
The good news is that Citizens boss Mark Hughes might actually have some autonomy. Worried Richard Dunne could still jump ship, the Welshman has lined up Christopher Samba to add depth to the defence from old club Blackburn.
Are Chelsea doing all they can to avoid confrontation with Jose Mourinho? Apparently not. £10m rated Deco is a priority for the Blues and Inter Milan.
David Moyes wants to bring Deco's considerably younger and better Portugal team-mate Joao Moutinho to Everton for a similar figure and could finance this swoop by letting Andy Johnson return to London. This time he would make himself comfortable at West Ham.
Not satisfied with sorting out the attack, Hammers manager Alan Curbishley is after a midfielder and a left-back. His solution is to plunder relegated Reading for James Harper and the much-coveted Nicky Shorey.
If you have read the recent financial analysis to come out of Anfield, in particular reports that Tom Hicks and George Gillett have claimed £1.4m in expenses in the last seven months, then it does not take Einstein to realise that Liverpool need money.
Big bundles of the stuff will arrive thanks to the sale of John Arne Riise to Roma for £5m. In addition, youth product Danny Guthrie will switch to Bolton permanently after a successful loan spell at the Reebok last season.
Providing Peter Crouch can be sold at around a million pounds per foot, Rafa Benitez will invest £5m in the man that kept alive the Reds' Champions League dreams in the first leg of the quarter finals, Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner.
Ronaldo update: Manchester United have made an official complaint to Fifa about Real Madrid's tactics for pursuing the Portuguese goal king.
However, Real Madrid president Ramon Caldreron denies any wrongdoing and insists there is no evidence to back up this complaint.
The Daily Mirror claims the winger will be fined by United if he fails to show up to pre-season training. Most newspapers believe £60m will be sufficient to close this transfer saga.

i think he should leave the club if he wants. we are tired of all this anyway. good luck
Man U should let the guy go. He's won vertually everything with them, he want to play where the great guys have played. Remember whatever Madrid wants, they get. Go Ronaldo Go!!
??
whats this bout liverpool buying Nicklas Bendtner. anyone got any info????
Sir Alex should sell ronaldo to real madrid at 85 million pound and bring in Luis Fabiano,David Bentley,Dani Alves,Lionel Messi and Micah Richards.Ronaldo get sick and tired let him go sir and see his suffers there. We will prove them in Champoins League next season.
...also why can't our own media do a bit of their own "unsettling" of top real madrid players?
....feed THEM their own medicine...
If I were running manu, I'd only let Ronaldo go for the equivalent amount of the outstanding debts on Man Utd's books - job done!
Man utd 1st eleven for new season-GK- VDS, DEF-S.RAMOS, RIO, VIDIC,EVRA, MID- SCHOLES, HGREAVES,CARRICK AND attacking mid KAKA FWD- RONNEY AND RSC or D.VILLA or L.PODOLSKI........
just sell ronnie 80mil and take 2 strikers and option here RSC, messi, l.fabiano, kaka, villa and podolski and they can bring right defender p.lahm or s.ramos....boring ronaldo!!!
£60 million for ronaldo?
clearly not enough, for Real Madrid used to say that they're willing to pay £100 million, which is more reasonable for such a goalscorer.
He's on the verge of taking the Ruud path and be another judas
dont really need him, better buy players such as Santa Cruz
Cristiano Ronaldo can go if he wants to, no point in keeping a player whom heart is not in the theatre of dreams. Glory United!!!!!!!!!!
As a club like Man Utd,they hav the right to not sell and hold on Ronaldo except if Ronaldo wanted to leave. But who was the one causing this saga?(we can replace this word with 'rumour').Real said they didn't do it,Man Utd won't even dare to try,or is it that Ronaldo's agent did all this juz for the money .
The RED DEVILS football club is one of the best clubs in Europe, and the ALSO defensive champions of both the UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE and THE FA PREMIER LEAGUE.But there is one thing about them and that is MAN U is a club that hates to sell it's key players but will like to buy other key players from other clubs. And now they want to buy BERBATOV,DAVID VILLA,MESSI,RONALDO D'ACSES MORIERA.
It is a good thing, but they should sell CHRISTIANO RONALDO in other buy this above listed players successfully.
sixty million??? Thaksin wheres your chequebook??
I think man utd would have lost their blinking marbles to sell ronaldo for 100m!! he is priceless!! i say its about time the other so called big clubs learnt a leson and also the players who think they can hold clubs to ransom should spend a time in the stands not even playing carling club football!! ronaldo has 4 years left on his contract and utd should make him serve at least half of that out of princilple alone!!!!!!
All this Ronaldo talk is boring me! BORING BORING BORING!! Change the record please! It's just like the summer of 1994, having to listen to Wet Wet Wet all the bloody time!!
hopfully gareth barry wont go.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFCCCCCCCCCCCCCC CCC
them man u fans havent got a clue. why do you want ronaldo to go, he is your best player. you could get a £150mil for him.
hopfully that gareth barry wont go AVFC
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFCCCCCCCCCC CCCCCCC
i think if ronaldo is not totally commited to united he should go. £50m and sergio ramos please. then buy 'class' the hunter preferably but any one from benzema, berbatov, villa, aguero, pato, even perhaps del piero to add some experience up front. sell saha ....cant wait to see manucho.
