Lambert pleads for Chairboys support

Sat 10 May, 03:00 PM

Wycombe boss Paul Lambert has urged fans to turn out in force on Sunday and recreate the atmosphere which almost toppled Chelsea.Wanderers host Stockport in the League Two play-off semi-finals aiming to fill Adams Park for the first time since holding Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in a Carling Cup last-four clash last season.

A crowd of 5,771 witnessed that memorable night against the Stamford Bridge outfit and a similar number are expected on Sunday as Lambert's men seek to establish a precious first-leg advantage.

"It would be brilliant to sell this place out," said Lambert.

"The last time we did that was when a little team called Chelsea came down and look what happened there.

"We held them to a draw and now they could be European Champions this year.

"I think that just shows what we have achieved at this football club."

With no new injury worries to contend with, Lambert is convinced his men can edge past Stockport and book a play-off final berth against Rochdale or Darlington at Wembley.

Lambert added: "You never know what's going to happen in a game like this but we're ready for it, you can be sure of that.

"The lads have been brilliant this year and we can definitely do it."

Stockport finished three places above the Chairboys and thus enjoy home advantage in next Saturday's second leg.
