Scotland defender Andy Webster has finally moved to SPL giants Rangers on a permanent basis, according to Wigan Athletic.The 26-year-old has been on loan at Ibrox since January 2007, just five months after joining the Premier League club.

Webster made football transfer history when he was the first to use FIFA Article 17. That provided a mechanism for him to terminate his contract with Hearts in the third year of a four-year deal, with the proviso that he joined a club in a foreign federation and that 15 days' notice was given.

The case was eventually taken to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland in October 2007.

Webster made four appearances in the Premier League for Wigan before moving to Rangers on loan.

A succession of injuries has halted his progress and he underwent a hernia operation three weeks ago.
