Wolfsburg coach Felix Magath has confirmed Italy defender Cristian Zaccardo will join the club from Palermo in the summer.A fee of around 8million euros has been agreed for the 26-year-old, who has signed a three-year contract with the Wolves.

"He is very flexible and strong with his head and in the tackle," enthused Magath about the World Cup winner on Friday.

"I am sure he can also become a great player for Italy by transfering to the Bundesliga.

"I am delighted we have Cristian Zaccardo, a player whose quality we can really do with in our squad. The young players will learn a lot from him."

Wolfsburg still harbour hopes of competing in next season's UEFA Cup and could break into the Bundesliga's top five with victory over Stuttgart this weekend.
