Byrne seeks new talent for Robins

Fri 09 May, 11:45 AM

Swindon assistant manager David Byrne will travel to Ireland and Norway this summer in a bid to unearth new talent for the 2008/09 campaign. The Robins, who finished 13th in League One this term, will be looking to mount a serious challenge for promotion in 2008/09 and Byrne believes foreign talent could help them achieve their goal.

"I am going over to Ireland to take in a few League of Ireland games and see what is around," Byrne told the club's official website.

"We have spoken to a few players and agents but we won't be diving in, that's for sure. In a few weeks time there will be a flood of players looking for clubs.

"I used to work with Stuart Gibson at Plymouth and he is now managing a team in Norway. He has sent me his fixture list so I have targeted a few games to assess the standard and see if there are any players we can bring in for pre-season.

"It's something we will be doing because we would like to get a few different bodies in for a trial during the pre-season period."
