Flamengo vice-president Kleber Leite is set to contact AC Milan striker Ronaldo after he expressed an interest in joining the Brazilian giants. The 31-year-old is currently recovering after undergoing surgery on his left knee in February and is not expected to return until November.

However, Ronaldo revealed earlier this week that a brief stint at Rio de Janeiro outfit Flamengo, who were linked with a move for the player before this latest injury, will help him force his way back into the Milan team once he makes a full recovery.

Ronaldo told La Gazzetta dello Sport: "Before I can think of Europe and Milan, I would like to spend a couple of months at Flamengo."

Leite, who is in Peru ahead of Flamengo's Copa Libertadores match against Cienciano on Wednesday, confirmed his intention to get in contact with Ronaldo, who is set to arrive in Rio for the latest stage of his rehabilitation.

"When I am back to Brazil, I'll contact Ronaldo," he said.

"I'm very enthusiastic about his words. He has opened up the possibility of joining the club again.

"(Flamengo doctor Jose Luiz) Runco told me he (Ronaldo) is coming to Rio alongside that player who had his leg broken (Arsenal's Eduardo da Silva)."
