LONDON (AFP) - Tournament leader Ross Fisher was six strokes clear of the field with nine holes left to play in the European Open on Sunday.
The 27-year-old Englishman, who has led since the first round when he posted a course record 63 at the London Club, made light of the wet and windy conditions to sink a 50-foot eagle putt on the fifth hole.
Fisher, three ahead overnight, was helped on his way by the performance of playing partner Graeme McDowell.
The Northern Irishman was four over for his round after four holes.
Fisher, seeking his second European Tour victory, was 17 under par as he headed into the back nine.
Meanwhile Spain's Sergio Garcia moved up into sole possession of second place on 11-under after going through the front nine in just 32 strokes.
McDowell's problems saw him drop down into a share of third place alongside David Frost.
The 48-year-old South African was on course for a high finish which would guarantee him a place in the British Open at Royal Birkdale, north-west England, later this month for those players not already exempt.
