Beardsley: Johnson will be big help

Sun 06 Jul, 05:00 PM

Notts County newcomer Jason Beardsley believes the signing of former Derby team-mate Michael Johnson will help him become a better player. The 18-year-old defender, who completed a three-month loan deal from Derby on Friday, can play at a right or left-back.

Beardsley made his debut for the Rams in the Carling Cup against Blackpool last season and has been on the bench three times for Paul Jewell's men, and he insists the influence of veteran Johnson will help to get the best out of him during his stay at Meadow Lane.

He told the Nottingham Evening Post: "I am really looking forward to it and I know Michael Johnson from Derby - he has vast experience and he is great to get on with.

"When you are with older players who have been there and done it, it really helps the younger lads and gets the best out of you. It is now or never for me really.

"If Paul Jewell calls me back after three months I have done well or maybe it will be extended and I can keep gaining experience here."
