Mark Selby and Ryan Day joined Joe Perry and home favourite Ding Junhui in the semi-finals of the new World Snooker Jiangsu Classic invitational.
In the round-robin format of the new tournament, the top two players from two groups of six players make it through to the semi-finals.
Perry became the first man through from Group A thanks to an unbeaten group stage, where he defeated Chinese wildcards Jin Long and Crucible quarter-finalist Liang Wenbo 2-1.
Perry also defeated Neil Robertson 2-0 before beating Day and Shaun Murphy by the same scoreline, with the latter two then having to fight it out for the last semi-final spot with Day coming out on top with a 2-0 victory.
Home hero Ding only lost two frames as he won all five of his matches in Nanjing to fly into the semi-finals, where he will play Day.
Ding hit a tournament high break of 110 as he beat Selby and then saw off compatriots Li Hang, Liu Chuang, along with Carter and Peter Ebdon.
Ebdon's chances of progressing were ended by a 2-1 defeat by Ding, with the Chinese starlet stealing the deciding frame after grabbing a snooker before clearing up to sink the Dubai-based former world champion.
Carter and Selby were then left to fight it out for the last semi-final spot as they clashed in their final group game.
Masters and Welsh Open winner Selby took the first with a break of 62, but Crucible finalist Carter levelled by taking the second to force a deciding frame.
That went the way of the 'Jester from Leicester' as a break of 72 put him through to the semi-finals, where he will face Perry.
