Potters and Baggies in Walters waltz

Sat 05 Jul, 06:45 PM

Premier League new boys Stoke and West Brom are reportedly set to lock horns this summer in a bid to prise Jon Walters from Ipswich Town. Both the Potters and Baggies are busy bolstering their squads as they prepare for a top-flight survival battle.

Albion boss Tony Mowbray has had more success in the transfer market so far, adding Luke Moore, Roman Bednar, Do-Heon Kim, Graham Dorrans, Michel Danek and Gianni Zuiverloon to his permanent playing staff.

But he insists he has 'more irons in the fire', and with Potters boss Tony Pulis also stepping up his recruitment plans, they are on a collision course over versatile Town forward Walters.

The 24-year-old really caught the eye last season, scoring 13 goals in 39 Championship games for the Tractor Boys.

Walters can play on the right wing or in a central striking role, and although the Daily Mirror claims a £1.5million is on the cards, Town gaffer Jim Magilton is likely to want nearer to £3million for the former Chester man.

Mowbray needs to bolster his right flank having lost Zoltan Gera to Fulham on a free transfer, while Pulis wants to provide stiff competition for star man Liam Lawrence and his frontmen.
