LONDON (AFP) - Flying Welsh winger Shane Williams has been compared to Manchester United's soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Sunday's European Cup quarter-final trip to Saracens.
While the Portuguese winger has been banging in the goals in the Premier League, Williams has been making the rugby headlines.
After being named Six Nations player of the tournament and breaking Gareth Thomas' Wales try-scoring record in the Grand Slam clincher against France, Williams has continued his scoring streak with the Welsh region.
He claimed a brace of tries in the Anglo-Wales Cup semi-final victory over Saracens and the Celtic League triumph over Ulster last weekend.
"He is our Cristiano Ronaldo," Wales captain Ryan Jones told the South Wales Echo.
"He is on fire at the moment. You give him a sniff of an opportunity of a try at the moment and he will score."
Ospreys enjoyed a 30-3 win at the Millennium Stadium in the Anglo-Wales Cup last month but coach Lyn Jones has told his side to forget that result.
"It's history now, this is a fresh game, a fresh challenge," said Jones.
"We have a fair idea of their strengths and weakness. It was a good result for us, but also highlighted a number of weaknesses in our game which we have been able to address.
"There is a fine line between complacency and confidence and I don't think we are anywhere near the complacency stage."
Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips will miss Sunday's tie with ligament damage so ex-All Black Justin Marshall will partner James Hook at half-back.
In Sunday's other last eight clash, Cardiff face a daunting trip to European giants Toulouse.
Cardiff flanker Martyn Williams, who came out of Test retirement to star for Wales this season, was in no doubt about the scale of the task.
"The last time we qualified for the quarters, in 2001, we also went to Toulouse and they blew us away," he said. "Hopefully the Welsh upsurge will feed our performance.
"But you just need to look at Toulouse's scrum-halves - do they choose Byron Kelleher or (Jean-Baptiste) Elissalde? They haven't got a bad squad have they?" dj08
