Dragons and Silkmen share spoils

Sat 05 Apr, 08:00 PM

Wrexham's survival hopes took another turn for the worse as they were held to a 1-1 draw by fellow strugglers Macclesfield Town. The first half was surprisingly flat despite the Dragons being desperate for the victory - but they had the best of the chances, with Drewe Broughton firing over on 16 minutes.

Macclesfield came back strongly, with Gareth Evans bringing a fine stop from Gavin Ward before Shane Brisley missed a golden chance from the resulting corner.

But the Dragons upped the tempo before the interval and Jonathan Brain had to be alert to push away Danny Williams' powerful free-kick.

However Welshman Jamie Tolley hit a hammer blow for Wrexham's survival hopes after 52 minutes when he picked up Steve Evans' poor clearance and rifled home.

But just as everything looked lost, Evans made up for his earlier mistake by heading in Michael Proctor's throw and giving the Dragons the slenderest of lifelines in the battle against the drop.
