Despite relinquishing his role as a football analyst for the BBC to present the wholly unnecessary new series of Gladiators, the former Arsenal striker still likes his thoughts on the game to be heard.

Well, when TT says 'the game', it really means 'his son', Shaun Wright-Phillips (pictured), who is being eyed up by Harry Redknapp for an £8 million move to Portsmouth.

Wrighty has told The Sun: "I think Portsmouth will be a good move for Shaun.

"Shaun has won a lot of medals and done well but he could go somewhere like Portsmouth and resurrect his career.

"Playing regularly, he can light up the Premier League again. He is a quality player. And I am not just saying because he is my son." Of course not Ian.

Redknapp has at least proved there is something in this story by saying: "I haven't spoken to anyone at Chelsea. But I like Shaun, he's a terrific talent. Of course he's the type of player I would love to have."

Still at Chelsea, Didier Drogba's agent Pierre Frelot has stirred things up nicely over the striker's own exit from Stamford Bridge, and all with an ambivalent Gallic shrug.

When asked about a possible move to Real Madrid, Frelot said: "Why not? Didier is calm because he is at a great club like Chelsea, but Real Madrid are also a great club."

Some good news for the Blues is that Russian forward Andrei Arshavin is due to fly in today for talks over a move to West London, apparently at the behest of his wife.

It looks like Arshavin will not be joined in London by compatriot Roman Pavyluchenko though. The Spartak Moscow striker is the latest forward that Tottenham Hotspur have turned their attention to, but their continued lack of Champions League football means they are set for another awkward and embarrassed 'thanks, but no thanks'.

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas must be a very relieved man, as the Gunners' interest in the man who was keeping him out of the Spain team for much of Euro 2008, Villarreal's Marcos Senna, looks set to end.

The Brazilian-born captain of the Yellow Submarine said: "I met with the president of Villarreal on Tuesday and we talked about extending my contract by two years.

West Ham hope to use their illustrious history to lure Dinamo Zagreb striker Josip Tadic to Upton Park.

"It would be nice to play for the club where Croatian legends Slaven Bilic and Igor Stimac once played," said the 20-year-old, possibly referring to Hajduk Split. Failing that, West Ham will do.

Jussi Jaaskelainen is due to sign a new four-year deal at Bolton Wanderers today, finally ending speculation linking him with clubs as disparate as Hull City and Barcelona.

Elsewhere, Everton are favourites to sign Turkey midfielder Mehmet Aurelio from Fenerbahce ahead of Real Betis, goalkeeper Martin Fulop hopes that he can join Stoke City from Sunderland in "the next two weeks", Liverpool fancy the attitude of Palmeiras goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri, and Hull manager Phil Brown wants to bring in Middlesbrough's midfield boss man George Boateng.

Manchester United are yet to make an announcement on exactly when Cristiano Ronaldo will finally have his ankle surgery, despite the Portuguese Football Federation saying it would be within the next few days.

As reported elsewhere on this here website, Ronaldinho's brother/agent Roberto de Assis said: "It is true, he is likely to go to Milan. It is 90% and we are heading in this direction."

However, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani was less forthright, saying: "We have to see how much the final cost will be, the transfer and then his signing-on fee. I cannot promise anything to the fans."

  1. It probably would benefit SWP to move from Chelsea. I think he could well shine in another team where he would get regular football. He is a young player, and doesn't want to spend his best years on the bench. Also, for his England career, he needs regular games.He has a lot of pace, but, I think his final ball was poor in many cases. Chelsea need to off load several players who haven't performed (for one reason or another) there's a lot of dead wood at the club. I think, in the coming weeks, there'll will be a lot of transfer activity. At the moment, there's five or so strikers at the club! I think Chelsea need to find another Robben on the wing...only a version that isn't injured every other bloody game lol!

  3. these big want away self opinionated,greedy,FOOTBALLERS should be made to have a season on loan @ a lower league team,have few kicks,days on the bench,reminding them of the true players in english footy,im not sure we want them @ peterborough though,we have a excellent set of guys(except judas mclean)who obviously already forgot his promise`im here to stay` ha ha.........money money makes the players go round.

  4. when he(shaun) arrived at Chelsea I am one of those fans that feel so happy about it...
    but unlucky for him he's not the great footballer for the Chelsea team,I think if he can play football in the right way & can crosses the ball like a genuine winger he must have his place in the Chelsea team...poor him

  8. I think SWP is a good player and he a had a great season, but he isn't enough good for chelsea, and if arshavin arrives then SWP has to go. He can light the premiere league, as Lassana Diarra did after he left arsenal for portsmouth.
    I start to be angry about this c.ronaldo rumours. i believe he will stay at Man Uts. and maybe in 2-3 years he will leave the club.

    TT is getting worse by the day. Senna is a defensive midfielder - it was Xavi and Iniesta keeping Cesc out of the side. You can be as flippant as you like but when that flippancy is coming directly out of your arse, it ceases to be all that funny.
