Gills boss delighted to get his man

Fri 04 Jul, 11:30 AM

Gillingham manager Mark Stimson is a happy man after securing the signing of striker Mark McCammon from Doncaster Rovers. The 6ft 5in frontman snubbed the offer of a one-year deal at former club Doncaster and approaches from other clubs to pen a three-year contract with the Gills as they look to bounce back to League One at the first time of asking.

And Stimson told the club's official website: "I first spoke to Mark eight weeks ago so it's been a long wait. When someone of his calibre becomes available, you've got to act quickly but there were several clubs chasing his signature.

"Fair play to Mark, he stuck to his word and I'm delighted to have signed him to a three-year deal.

"What Mark brings to the club is exactly what we were lacking last season - a target man. He's a really good size and that's what we've been missing up front.

"In my opinion, Doncaster were the best footballing side in League One last season and Mark was an important part of that team, so we will not be changing our playing style."
