Premier League - Transfer Talk: Enter Inter

Eurosport - Wed, 04 Jun 20:09:00 2008

The ink has barely dried on Jose Mourinho's Internazionale contract, but the red-tops are already falling over themselves in the race to guess which of his former Chelsea stars will be joining him at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

FOOTBALL: Chelsea defender Ashley Cole and coach Jose Mourinho - 0

Ashley Cole has emerged as today's front-runner, with the Daily Star (sample headline: 'BIG BRO: NEW BLONDE EVEN SEXIER THAN HOT BOT DANI') claiming an £18 million offer is in the offing for a player who 'sources' say "Mourinho whould love to work with again".

The Star claims Didier Drogba will sign for Inter after snubbing the overtures of city rivals Milan, while Ricardo Carvalho, Frank Lampard and Michael Essien are the other blindingly obvious names being linked with a switch to the Italian champions.

Meanwhile in north London, Arsenal and Tottenham are rumoured to be locking horns for the signature of £17 million-rated Valencia striker David Villa, whose estimated value appears to have fallen by about £33 million since he was last linked with a move to the Premier League.

Everyone's second least-favourite transfer saga rumbles on, with the Daily Mirror claiming Martin O'Neill wants £8 million and Peter Crouch from Liverpool in exchange for Aston Villa captain Gareth Barry , while the Daily Mail claims a fee of £15 million would do the trick.

Newcastle are thanking their lucky stars that Galatasaray winger Arda Turan is a fan of the film GOAL! - in which a talented but impressoniable foreign youngster who knows no better fulfills a lifetime ambition by joining the St James' Park club - as they prepare a £7 million bid.

Bungling centre-half Michael Dawson will be the latest victim of Juande Ramos's streamlining at Tottenham, with Bolton, Newcastle and Villa rumoured to be considering offers in the region of £4 million, while former Spurs man Sean Davis could be set to swap Portsmouth for the dubious charms of Middlesbrough .

Wigan defender Paul Scharner is a £3 million target for Sunderland and Fulham, but he could be persuaded to stay at the JJB when he learns that Steve Bruce is reportedly set to make a move for outstandingly named Honduran forward Carlo Costly, who would cost a not remotely costly £2 million from Polish outfit GKS Belchatow.

North of the border, those patriotic rumour-mongers at the Scottish Sun are continuing to peddle a fanciful story about Hibernian striker Steven Fletcher joining Real Madrid, who will be heartened by the widely reported news that Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo intends to join them within the yearzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...

  1. To chasewater3! Fergie can't be youth coach and scout at the same time. He is the manager and he delegates!!! Thats why we have a TEAM. Youth coach as usual trains the youth, scout does his job to get talents and the Manager puts everything together in perfect harmony. He takes the blame when something goes wrong and also takes the credit when it works well.

  15. liverpool have a very strong spine with reina ,carragher ,mascherano ,gerrard and torres. its down the wings and the fullback positions that liverpool struggle. get rid of aurelio, arbeloa, pennant, rise, voronin, kewell and crouch. none of these players have the quality to win a premier league title. barry would be a great signing and with alonso going to juve, barry and mascherano would provide the cover for gerrard to bound foward. serious transfer funds must be provided for rafa to compete next year. a quality winger would be top of my list with eithet ashley young or alex hleb possible targets. david villa would be a great signing to play just of torres upfront.if villa or another quality srtiker wasnt signed this would be my prefared line up.

  16. Ahhh my Chelsea trying get new coach but no one wants to come because he know if he doesn't win everything he will get fired. If i were their coach i would sell Drogba,W. Fillips , Maluda , Belleti and Lampard in their place i would buy Joaquin (Valencia) Dani Alves (sevilia) Van der Vaart (HSV) and Silva (Valencia). With Shevcenko and Anelka in the attack they would be strong Essien Joaquin Silva, Ballack J.Cole and Van Der Vaart in the middle they would be Very creative, strong, and fast and Cole, Alves, J.T. and Carvalio. they would be excellent they would have the composer as a team to win everything.
