Joe Perry secured his second victory of the Juangsu Classic against Jin Long to top the Group A standings on frame difference while Ding Junhui lead the way in Group B.
The Englishman won 2-1 and now leads from Shaun Murphy, who lost by the same scoreline to Neil Robertson.
Ryan Day recorded his second consecutive win of the tournament so far to join the pair on points at the top of the table.
But Perry takes the overnight lead thanks to a frame difference of plus three, compared to Murphy's plus two and Day's zero.
Both Murphy and Day have played a match more than Perry heading into the second day of play in China.
In Group B, the top of the table is equally tight, with local hero Ding edging out Mark Selby on frame difference following a narrow win over compatriot Li Hang.
Selby, previously unbeaten in his first two matches, fell to Peter Ebdon who recorded his first point of the tournament with victory over the Leicester-based player.
Crucible runner-up Ali Carter lost to Li Hang to leave him bottom of the pile with just one point and a frame difference of minus three.
