Forest boss eyes double swoop

Tue 01 Jul, 12:30 PM

Colin Calderwood has confirmed his interest in luring Carlisle striker Joe Garner and ex-Manchester United star Andy Cole to Nottingham Forest. The Reds boss is keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season and 20-year-old Garner and Cole, who was recently released by Sunderland, are top of his wanted list.

Garner scored 14 goals last season and Calderwood is reportedly closing in on a deal for the former Blackburn trainee, who is expected to be out until December because of a cruciate knee ligament injury.

"He (Garner) is a young player with potential, but he also has experience in League football," said Calderwood.

"He is somebody we have known about for a while. Hopefully we can bring him in."

On the prospect of signing Nottingham-born Cole, Calderwood added to the Nottingham Evening Post: "There has also been contact with Andy and we will try to follow up on that."
