By winning the 91st Giro d'Italia on Sunday, Spain's Alberto Contador ended Italy's 12-year grip on the event.
Contador, whose team Astana were only drafted into the race rostra the 11th Hour, became the first 'foreign' rider to win the Giro since Russia's Pavel Tonkov in 1992.
The 25-year-old also became the first Spaniard to succeed in Italy since cycling legend Miguel Indurain recorded his second of back-to-back victories in 1993.
