Railwaymen slam Maynard rumours

Tue 01 Apr, 03:45 PM

Crewe Alexandra assistant boss Neil Baker has quashed reports linking striker Nicky Maynard with a move to West Bromwich Albion. The in-form forward - who has scored nine goals this season - was reported to be a £1million target for the Baggies, but Baker insists there has been no contact from Albion and suggested the amount mentioned is below Alexandra's valuation.

He told the Sentinel: "When anybody is scoring goals there is bound to be speculation, but I don't know of interest from West Brom.

"We know at Crewe that players who show enough potential could move on eventually and Nicky is no different.

"But he is someone we obviously want to hold on to and with his potential, I'd be surprised if he was allowed to leave for the amount being talked about."
